Community Liaison Committee:

The second meeting of the Community Liaison Comittee was held on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 in Argonne Visitor Center. More details on the Commumity Liaison Committee, including the presentation made by HTRL's Biosaftey Officer Joe Kanabrocki are available here.

THE FOURTH ANNUAL HOWARD T. RICKETTS SYMPOSIUM ON MICROBIOLOGY

The Howard T. Ricketts Symposium on Microbiology was held from 1-5 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2006 in P-117 of The University of Chicago Hospitals and is open to the public. The announcement is available here.

GLRCE's Exhibit: "Infection and Immunity"

The GLRCE hosted an exhibit entitled "Infection and Immunity". There were posters updating the community about the Ricketts Biocontainment Laboratory; fun (and not so fun) facts about emerging and re-emerging diseases and a slide show about flu transmission. Perhaps the most interesting demonstration was a microscope set-up demonstrating gram positive bacteria taken from purses, food, skin and the bottom of shoes from the staff and locals.

Argonne National Laboratory's 60th Anniversary

Argonne National Laboratory opened its gates to the community on Saturday, October 7, 2006 to celebrate the Laboratory's 60th anniversary. The Open House included over 125 science exhibits, demonstrations and presentations hosted by Argonne, the University of Chicago and the U.S. Department of Energy. The event, anticipated by the community, attracted over 18,000 visitors of all ages to Argonnes's campus.

Argonne Open House

The Ricketts Laboratory will be hosting a booth at the upcoming public Open House at Argonne National Laboratory on Saturday October 7, 2006. We hope to see you there.

Community Leaders Round Table Update

The Argonne/DOE Community Leaders Round Table received an update from Ricketts Laboratory officials on construction and operational planning for the Laboratory. To view the slide presentation, please click on this link.

Community Liaison Committee:

The surrounding community has an interest in the safety and security of the Ricketts Lab, as well as in the scientific research conducted at the lab. Because construction and operation of the Ricketts Lab are of significant interest to the surrounding communities of Argonne, Darien, DuPage County and the greater Chicago area, a Community Liaison Committee (CLC) has been established to provide a means of communication between the laboratory administration and the community.
The CLC includes representatives from stakeholder groups of the laboratory. These representatives include both scientists and lay people, University and Argonne employees and unaffiliated local residents, local and state emergency management officials, the members of the local medical community, and representatives of DOE and NIAID. The CLC provides advice to the Ricketts Lab and communicates with the Argonne Community Leaders Roundtable to ensure that the communities neighboring Argonne are informed about Ricketts Lab activity. To futher facilitate communication, lab news and activities are also regularly posted on this website.

For more information about the CLC, please contact Navneet Bhasin .

Community Outreach Meeting:

On July 26, the University of Chicago held a community outreach event about the Ricketts Lab at Argonne National Laboratory. The event was attended by community members, Argonne employees, and members of the press. Multimedia and print reports from the meeting are available here.
